Why you need a CSS editor when you have to write the code be yourself? I think the answer to this question is; editors make your workflow more effective and understandable. They offer an integrated development environment and let you write and edit CSS and HTML source code within a compact interface. They act as debugging and testing tools as well. 1. Notepad++

Notepad++ is a free source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several languages. Running in the MS Windows environment, its use is governed by GPL License. Based on the powerful editing component Scintilla, Notepad++ is written in C++ and uses pure Win32 API and STL which ensures a higher execution speed and smaller program size. By optimizing as many routines as possible without losing user friendliness, Notepad++ is trying to reduce the world carbon dioxide emissions. When using less CPU power, the PC can throttle down and reduce power consumption, resulting in a greener environment.

2. jEdit

jEdit is a mature programmer’s text editor which is written in Java, so it runs on every platform provided.     I used NP++ in a pinch, too…but nothing imho beats Dreamweaver CS 5.5 (don't be fooled by 1/2 v upgrade). One caveat – you will need to "clean up" some code with DW, but the time you save is still substantial. I hand-code in DW so it's not too bad. The best thing about DW 5.5 is CSS Inspect Mode. Wow…

    where is textmate on that list?
